The sanctions on people of Iranian descent who live in the US have made life pretty difficult for many. There are no laws prohibiting the selling of products and services to people of Iranian descent, but it has been happening a lot on the US soil. Iranian-Americans are having a problem accessing even basic needs. Sending money to relatives in Iran and vice versa has become impossible in the recent times. Getting medicines to Iran that aid in the fight against cancer and the like have also become an impossible feat. In short, there is ethnic profiling against Iranian-Americans and it is affecting and degrading people of Iranian descent in many ways. This is as a result of the sanctions meted out on Iran which have been designed to cripple its imports, exports, energy sector, and the entire international financial system. The result of this has been that almost all companies now do not want to risk their business licenses by doing business with Iran or Iranian-Americans. This, in turn, has resulted in the collapse of industries, rising inflation, and massive joblessness. Ordinary commerce now depends on the international criminal network if Iran is to survive at all, out of necessity. Read more: https://www.facebook.com/MarkDubowitzFDD/. The one thing these sanctions do not affect is the humanitarian relief. The goal of the US government is not to affect the ordinary Iranians but to pressure the government. They say that they will not touch the export of food and medicine to Iran. Anyone that chooses to support Iran is fought by the U.S treasury department and given penalties. They claim that these penalties are due to security concerns but this is not really the case. Their claim is that the penalties sure due to the fact that Iran is a threat with their nuclear weapons but the truth is that these penalties have nothing to do with security concerns. Even though these sanctions against Iran have affected their financial sector, the measures put to hinder Iran's access to shipping have been even more detrimental. The U.S has targeted one of the most important sectors which are the gasoline imports to Iran. This is because Iran depends so much on these. Any country or shipping company that dares transport gasoline to Iran has been penalized. Iran is very dependent on their import and export sector. This is why they are affected severely by the sanctions against the transport of goods to or from the country. No country is willing to even transport ordinary goods to Iran because they are afraid. Iran sanctions directly affect people living in the US and especially those of Iranian descent. This is because there are restrictions against receiving goods from Iran or even traveling with anything from Iran which is imports. You are also not allowed to ship goods to Iran which is exporting. To make matters worse, if you have friends and family in Iran, you cannot send or receive money to them. The US government claims that their sanctions have not and will not affect humanitarian relief to Iran. The goal of the US government is not to cause suffering to the ordinary Iranians but to pressure the government. The export of food and medicine to Iran will not be affected in any way by the sanctions. There have been instances where a US citizen of Iranian descent has tried to buy something in the US but has been denied the right just because he is from Iran. The sanctions are not supposed to affect buying and selling in the US but people have complained of this. The reason is that people are afraid of getting any penalties from the US government. If you have any family business in Iran, you are not allowed to make any investments. You cannot benefit from the business too because you are not allowed to send and receive money from Iran. People who have lost relatives in Iran and inherited land cannot really benefit from it because it cannot be sold. If you used to work in Iran and you retire then receive a pension, this is not allowed under the sanctions if you now live in the US. The US government claimed that the sanctions would not affect individuals but this doesn't seem to be the case. It is not only affecting the government but it affects even individuals. No one is allowed to invest in property and cannot do anything about it unless they get authorization from Mark Dubowitz CEO of FDD. The only good news is that there are licenses that are granted by the Office of foreign assets control (OFAC). It doesn't happen as it should but if you talk to them they might just grant you a license to sell your land in Iran. Some policymakers are not aware that this is allowed and they, therefore, harass these Iranian-Americans who still have close connections with their family at home. The bottom line is that these sanctions affect so many of Iranian-Americans both personally and professionally. The sanctions put on Iran by the US government were meant to pressure the Iranian government because of their terrorist support. This is the basis of the sanctions because Iran pursued nuclear weapons which are a threat to security. The goal was to only pressure the government but not to affect ordinary Iranians. This is not the case now because even Iranian-Americans are being directly affected by these sanctions. There are countries and banks but in the US and outside that have gone against the sanctions against Iran and supported them. These have been given penalties by the US treasury department. They say that these penalties are meant to ensure security. They say that Iran's nuclear weapons pose security concerns but these penalties have nothing to do with this. Iranian-Americans are being affected in that they cannot import or export to or from Iran. Most of these people have only moved to the US recently and still have strong ties with their families back home. They are forced to cut these ties because they cannot even send or receive money from Iran. The ban on imports and exports was initially supposed to be only military goods but it has become very personal. It is impossible for Iranian-Americans to invest in Iran. They cannot benefit from their family businesses back home because this is prohibited. If you were working in Iran and eligible for a pension, you cannot receive it while in the US. These unintended consequences are affecting Iranian-Americans because even buying and selling of goods in US soil is affected. This is because people are afraid of the penalties they will get in case they go against the regulations. Yet another effect is that the companies that belong to people of Iranian descent are crumbling. No one will partner with them, no one will buy the products and services or sell to them following the enforcement of the sanctions. The good news is that there are people who are trying to fight for the rights of Iranian-Americans by fighting the discrimination against them because of the sanction. They have tried and are still continuing to educate people on this situation so as to find a solution to the situation. This makes it all better because anyone who supports the Iranian government gets protection from these groups. This makes it easier to get licenses from the office of foreign assets control to be able to sell land in Iran. Discover more about Iranian descent here: https://www.britannica.com/topic/Persian. |
