Iran sanctions directly affect people living in the US and especially those of Iranian descent. This is because there are restrictions against receiving goods from Iran or even traveling with anything from Iran which is imports. You are also not allowed to ship goods to Iran which is exporting. To make matters worse, if you have friends and family in Iran, you cannot send or receive money to them. The US government claims that their sanctions have not and will not affect humanitarian relief to Iran. The goal of the US government is not to cause suffering to the ordinary Iranians but to pressure the government. The export of food and medicine to Iran will not be affected in any way by the sanctions. There have been instances where a US citizen of Iranian descent has tried to buy something in the US but has been denied the right just because he is from Iran. The sanctions are not supposed to affect buying and selling in the US but people have complained of this. The reason is that people are afraid of getting any penalties from the US government. If you have any family business in Iran, you are not allowed to make any investments. You cannot benefit from the business too because you are not allowed to send and receive money from Iran. People who have lost relatives in Iran and inherited land cannot really benefit from it because it cannot be sold. If you used to work in Iran and you retire then receive a pension, this is not allowed under the sanctions if you now live in the US. The US government claimed that the sanctions would not affect individuals but this doesn't seem to be the case. It is not only affecting the government but it affects even individuals. No one is allowed to invest in property and cannot do anything about it unless they get authorization from Mark Dubowitz CEO of FDD. The only good news is that there are licenses that are granted by the Office of foreign assets control (OFAC). It doesn't happen as it should but if you talk to them they might just grant you a license to sell your land in Iran. Some policymakers are not aware that this is allowed and they, therefore, harass these Iranian-Americans who still have close connections with their family at home. The bottom line is that these sanctions affect so many of Iranian-Americans both personally and professionally.
